Liverpool Road, Manchester City Centre
Contor was given the opportunity to refurbish this Grade II listed building opposite the Science & Industry Museum in Manchester City Centre back into a residential development after being derelict for many years.
The client and conservation officer wanted to retain as much of the old character of this historical 19th-century Georgian Mill as possible. Contor, working with the design teams set forth to bring this beautiful building back from the dead. Almost everything, including the roof, floors and walls was taken down and rebuilt. Tiles were brought in from Wales where old battered ones needed replacing, bricks were hand-picked from a salvage yard in Salford to match existing where needed and every floorboard and piece of stair was hand removed, repaired, relaid and resealed. Where new materials were needed they were fetched from a reclamation yard in Tarporley.
The result of the refurbishment is 3 double bedrooms all with ensuites, a new extension to the rear of the property that houses the kitchen, a living room and a private sun terrace.
